Points are not interchangeable

Each branch leans on a different point type, and there is no exchange between them. Life is primarily Tool Operation—its Packing Station node costs 16 Tool Operation and 2 Field Study. Animal is primarily Nurturing Animals, ending at Animal Power for 15 Nurturing Animals and 1 Tech Research. Industry runs on Tech Research.

The consequence is that you cannot rush one branch using a surplus earned elsewhere. The activity that generates each point type is the real gate, so if a branch is stalled, the fix is to go do that activity rather than to keep researching.

The one rule that saves you points

Where a node lists more than one prerequisite, you only need one of those parents unlocked to reach it. The cost line, however, is charged in full—every point type it names, whichever parent you came through. Read the cost row rather than following the arrows, because a node that looks cheap from one direction costs exactly the same from the other.

The Industrial spine worth planning around

  1. 01

Lightning Ward, 2 Tech Research: unlocks the Lightning Rod. Take it before your first thunderstorm season—it is the cheapest node with a real consequence.

  2. 02

Alloy Material, 8 Tech Research and 1 Tool Operation: unlocks the Advanced Smelter, Steel Ingot and Titanium Ingot. Everything expensive downstream depends on this one.

  3. 03

Thermal Power Generation - Update, 8 Tech Research and 1 Tool Operation: unlocks the Upgraded Fuel GeneratorFuel GeneratorA fuel-driven generator with more output than the basic model..

  4. 04

Commander, 12 Tech Research and 1 Tool Operation: the terminal node of the branch, unlocking the Automated Workbench and therefore drone stations.

Where branch order actually bites

Titanium is the choke point. Automation stations, the Automated Workbench and the top tool tier all require Titanium Ingot, and Titanium Ingot comes from Alloy Material in the Industrial branch. A player guide places drones at the end of the Industrial tree needing Old City materials, while noting that a single titanium bar can turn up early in a crate near the mountain outpost—enough to tease, not enough to build with.

If you intend to automate at all, treat Industry as the branch you finish first and let Agriculture and Life fill in around it. If you do not, Industry can wait, but then plan for a manual farm and budget the tool-upgrade chain in gold instead.

Opening the fourth branch

Agriculture, Industry and Life are available from the moment the tree opens. Animal is not: it unlocks during the animal-husbandry tutorial, after you build the Small Barn and report back. Players who cannot find the branch have usually built the barn without closing the tutorial step.

The four branches

Point types are as recorded for Industry, Life and Animal. Agriculture is the remaining branch and Field Study the remaining point type, but the references do not state that pairing outright, so it is marked unconfirmed here.
